At Serengeti Mara Experts, we make it easy for you and your friends to experience the Serengeti with others who share the same excitement for wildlife.
Our expert group safari offers more than just game drives. We carefully design these adventures to bring together people from different places and backgrounds to explore one of the world’s most stunning wildlife parks. There’s something special about seeing a lion for the first time, then talking about it around a campfire with new friends.
Group safaris are perfect for those who want the full safari experience without the high price tag. They’re especially great for solo travelers, couples, student groups, or small families who enjoy meeting others while sharing the cost of guides, vehicles, and lodges.
For private groups like families, friends, or teams, we offer fully customized group safari options where you choose the pace, accommodation, and route.
Whether you’re watching giraffes from your safari vehicle or sharing stories during dinner, this kind of travel creates connections. It’s not just about what you see. It’s also about who you see it with.
Our Serengeti group safaris are designed to bring people closer to nature and each other in a way that’s both relaxed and unforgettable.
At Serengeti Mara Experts, we recommend group safaris for anyone looking for an affordable, social, and well-organized adventure. If planning every detail isn’t your thing but you still want the real safari experience, this is your best option.
Group safaris are cost-effective. By sharing a vehicle, guides, and lodging, you significantly reduce your costs while still getting high-quality service. Our itineraries include everything you need, such as park fees, transport, meals, and professional guiding, so all you do is show up.
They’re also more social. You’ll travel with like-minded people from across the world. Whether you’re a couple from Nairobi, a solo traveler from Germany, or friends from Kampala, you’ll find the atmosphere welcoming and easygoing. Our guides keep things flexible and make sure the group dynamic remains comfortable and balanced.
We take care of all the logistics, including transfers, accommodation, routes, and entry permits. If you’re a school, organization, or corporate group with specific goals, we’ll plan around your dates, needs, and schedule. Just bring your camera and we’ll handle the rest.
The Serengeti is a year-round destination and group safaris are available in every season. For classic wildlife viewing and dramatic migration scenes, June to October is the peak.
The dry season of July-October is the best for sighting animals as they concentrate near water sources and the northern Serengeti is best to visit during this time because of it’s famed great wildebeest river crossings. This is a busy time, so we recommend booking 4 to 6 months in advance.
From December to March, the southern Serengeti is the best place to be. This is calving season, when herds gather in the Ndutu plains to give birth. It’s an incredible time to witness predators in action, new life emerging, and a lush green landscape stretching for miles. The crowds are lighter and temperatures are comfortable.
If you’re interested in saving some money or if you prefer fewer crowds, April, May, and November are the perfect months for you.
These are the green or low seasons, when the park is peaceful, the rates are lower, and the scenery is spectacular. It may rain, but our guides plan routes around the weather. These months are also ideal for photographers, students, and travelers who want a slower-paced experience.
We offer both regular group departures and custom private group safaris all year.
This area is accessible year-round and filled with resident wildlife like lions and leopards. It’s a great hub for group safaris with easy access to all corners of the park.
From July to October, this area is the stage for dramatic river crossings. We take groups to prime viewing spots for crocodile encounters and predator activity.
Perfect from December to March during calving season. The wide-open plains allow for great group game drives and close encounters with big cats.
Best from May to June, when the area is green and less crowded. Excellent for group safaris that enjoy birdwatching and watching smaller river crossings.
These areas sit just outside the park. They offer great value group accommodations, fewer restrictions, and the ability to enjoy walking safaris and night drives.
Serengeti Mara Experts offer group safaris that start with a warm welcome to your guide and safari mates. You quickly feel like part of the family, and it isn’t long before we plunge into the very center of the Serengeti, where things never remain the same and every moment is extraordinary.
Your game drives: a highlight of every safari. Morning and midday drives are ideal for predator sighting, while the afternoon drives are all about capturing the landscape. Whether it is fuel-station like giraffe sighting in the morning or elephant tracking in the open plains, your guide is positioned to provide the very best view plus perfect photo opportunities.
Meals are taken in groups and they are also part of the safari experience. Lunch is often served picnic style along the road while dinner is a served at the camp around the communal table.
Our guests often remember the Maasai village and the market as the best part of the trip. These are cultural visits and they help the guests understand life in the region.
Evening sundowner memories last a lifetime. The beauty, snacks, and drinks are complemented as the sun sets and the sky changes colors. Capturing moments through photographs, self-reflection, and bonding with members within a group makes these moments more perfect.
Optional hot-air balloon rides are available but at extra USD 550 per person. We will assist with booking these rides.
After the balloon ride, you will enjoy a champagne breakfast which makes for a breathtaking start to the day.
If you prefer longer balloon rides, we can help arrange it in other parks like Ngorongoro Crater or Tarangire National Park. Each of these parks adds something extra to the trip which works perfectly for a group that wants to experience the different wildlife and ecosystems available. In addition, these parks are perfect for group photos and highlight spectacular drives.
Guides these days are just seen as a driver. With the appropriate training and experience, they can broaden into the fields of wildlife guiding and community education as they get educated on group dynamics. In addition to driving, they ensure that guests are provided with social experience, answering animal sightings, questions, and animal encounters from the wildlife with personal experience.
How many people can we expect in a group?
In our scheduled safaris, we can accommodate up to 12 travelers, dividing them into 4 to 7 people per vehicle. This strikes a balance as the group is small enough to receive individual attention, yet large enough to enjoy group dynamics. Private groups can be larger and use multiple vehicles, depending on your needs.
Maximizing the comfort and wildlife viewing experience is easier with smaller, manageable group sizes. Smaller groups are also more organized in following the set itinerary, mealtime, and social time.
Is it possible to book as a solo traveler?
Yes, and many people do. To meet new people or to avoid the single supplement cost, many solo travelers easily book group safaris. This is a friendly and safe way to travel and most guests leave with friends to cherish the memories.
You will be surrounded by nature enthusiasts and the experiences will feel better shared. Whether it is your first or fifth safari, the group quickly bonds and nourishes a feeling of togetherness.
What type of accommodation is provided?
Tent and lodge accommodation is of mid range standards. The facilities are hygienic and well regarded. Every room has a private bathroom, hot water, and is equipped with mosquito nets. The room is also cleaned on a daily basis. Some accommodations are located within the park, while others are located just outside.
For private groups, the mix of lodges and camping is customized based on the budget and other stated preferences. Regardless of the balance between camping and lodges, basic needs such as safety, rest, and a nice greeting will always be provided.
Is group safari safe?
Group safaris are safe. The safety of the safari group is always prioritized and in place. The safari cars are in good condition and well maintained, the guides are certified in first aid, and all safety regulations of the park are adhered to. The lodges and camps are equipped with security personnel around the clock and have set up emergency response systems.
It is the responsibility of the tour operator to provide every group a safety briefing at the beginning of the safari. While during the safari, the participants will be well informed of the circumstances in which they will be taken through and how they will be kept safe while in the campers and during the game drives.
What type of cars do you have?
The cars are specifically designed for safari and in this case we have 4×4. The cars have pop up roofs and large windows which provides very good visibility. Every seat is a window seat so you will not miss anything. The cars also have coolers, power sockets and radios for coordination with the guides.
We keep the number of passengers for each vehicle to a minimum to avoid crowding. This ensures your gear has enough space alongside your camera gear for photos.
Can private groups change some details of the scheduled itinerary?
Absolutely. If it’s a family gathering, a meeting with friends, or even an organization gathering, the itinerary is completely flexible. We can change the speed, pace, activities, accommodations, and even include Zanzibar for a beach extension.
We help you design an itinerary that matches your budget and style of travel. If you prefer walking safaris, photography sessions, or cultural stops, we will make it happen.
How demanding is a safari in terms of physical fitness?
The safari experience is mostly enjoyed from the vehicle which makes it less demanding. Some walking will happen during your stays in the camps or during the cultural visits, and your comfort will always remain our priority.
If your group consists of elderly participants or those with limited physical mobility, special considerations will be made regarding the scheduled activities and accommodations.
What clothing should I bring for a group safari?
You will receive a detailed safari checklist well ahead of the travel date. With that being said, you should also bring light clothing, sun hats, and hiking backpacks, and pack in soft bags like duffels or backpacks.
Remember to bring along your passport, insurance card, and chargers as an example of some travel essentials that may be easy to overlook. We ensure proper preparations are made so that there are no surprises.
What if someone in the group gets sick?
Basic first aid is provided from the guides, and all camps and lodges are equipped with emergency protocols. We have partnerships with local clinics, Flying Doctors, and other Emergency Medical Services. Strongly recommended travel insurance is available.
Ensuring your well being is always a top priority, and any swift action needed to resolve difficulties will always be taken. Your experience is managed to ensure you are taken care of from the moment you arrive until the moment you depart.
